As seen above, Vaporeon is one of the so-called "Eeveelutions," an evolution of the Pokémon Eevee, known for its irregular genetic code and ability to evolve into one of seven Pokémon: the Water type Vaporeon, of course, via Water Stone, Electric type Jolteon via Thunder Stone, Fire type Flareon via Fire Stone, Psychic type Espeon via happiness-based evolution during the day, Dark type Umbreon via happiness evolution during the night, Grass type Leafeon via level-up in Eterna Forest, and Ice type Glaceon via level-up on Route 217.

Vaporeon is largest of all the Eeveelutions and possesses the highest HP. Pokédex entries states that it has the unique ability to melt into water and freely control the substance. Its tail often causes it to be mistaken for a mermaid, and its fins vibrate when it is about to rain. Vaporeon's ultra-rare "shiny" form is a light purple color.
